The Manchester United star is struggling to get into the first-team and has been advised to leave in January in order to save his EURO 2020 hopes.

When Donny van de Beek arrived in the summer, he would not have expected to see his Manchester United career go the way that it has. The Dutchman has failed to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team plans and is mostly used as a late substitute these days.

Of course, he is still very young and has a lot of time to develop and establish himself as a regular at Old Trafford. While that could very possibly in the future, it also puts his place in the Netherlands national team in danger.

Van de Beek has already made 17 appearances for his country but it will be very difficult for Frank de Boer to guarantee him a place in his team.

And the Netherlands national team manager has advised to discuss his future with the United hierarchy and sort something out. As reported by Goal, De Boer said:

"“Euro 2020 is coming, he will undoubtedly want to be there. Maybe it would be good for him to discuss with the club exactly what they want with him. If the view on playing time does not improve, he may have to declare that he should be loaned or even sold.“You have to be lucky every now and then. Of course it doesn’t look great now, but with a great performance it can suddenly change completely.“We also don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. Perhaps they have made certain agreements with his transfer, they will get him ready for next year this season. That always remains a bit of a guess.”"

With the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba ahead of him in the pecking order, it is unlikely that Van de Beek will enjoy too many starts this season. That could change in the near future though as it is expected that Pogba will leave the club in the summer.

Perhaps the plan has always been to bring him in and allow him to adjust to the English game for a season before making him a first-team regular on when the Frenchman leaves. But that could prove to be costly, when it comes to the Dutchman’s national team hopes.

With the advise coming from his manager, it is likely that he could decide to take action. And a loan move to a Premier League side for the rest of the season could do him a whole of good.

Manchester United are in the middle of a title race though and as a result, it is unlikely that they will let the midfielder leave in the middle of the season.
