West Bromwich Albion are considering making an offer to sign the out-of-favour Manchester United defender in the upcoming January transfer window.
Premier League clubs are marching towards the half-way point of a rapidly progressing 2020-21 season. With Christmas gone, attention will now turn towards the approaching January transfer window. This is the period of the footballing calendar when teams struggling in the league search for players who can turn their fortunes around.
West Bromwich Albion are one of the many Premier League sides looking to exploit the opportunities presented by the mid-season transfer window, despite being hampered heavily by the global pandemic.
According to a report from Todofichajes, the suspected relegation-fighters will offer €8 million to sign Phil Jones from Manchester United in the upcoming January transfer window.
West Bromwich Albion’s newly-appointed boss Sam Allardyce is seeing the acquisition of an experienced centre-half as an imperative part of the club’s winter transfer business.
United have already been linked with several new names, as they often are. But this time, there is a belief that the club will prioritise selling players rather than buying.

Having been left out of the 25-man Premier League squad earlier this season, Phil Jones is deemed to be surplus to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s requirements at Old Trafford. He was expected to leave the club in the summer, but the concerns over his fitness put off the idea of a possible switch.
Since Solskjaer became the manager of the Red Devils, Jones has featured just 26 times, having remained on the sidelines with various injury issues for the majority of the time. And in the 2020-21 campaign, he is yet to make an appearance. The upcoming summer will mark Jones’ ten-year stay at Old Trafford if he decides to stay put at the club.
West Bromwich Albion are not the only club willing to take the 28-year-old Englishman off of United’s hands though. He has several other admirers, with teams such as Derby County, Newcastle United and Inter Milan also said to be interested in a January move.
