Inter Milan reportedly could be set to offer the out-of-favour Manchester United star a way out of Old Trafford on a loan deal.

The dilemma with Phil Jones’ current position at Manchester United is complex as well as very unique at the same time.

One of the most loyal servants present in the current squad, Jones has had been enduring a turbulent phase in his professional footballing career — one the English international would like to end shortly.

Jones joined Manchester United from Blackburn Rovers almost a decade ago in 2011. Sir Alex Ferguson was the man who chose the Englishman to be a future replacement for Nemanja Vidic at Old Trafford.

Vidic was then considered a household name in the Manchester United defence. And Jones, reflecting physicality and robustness of the same ilk, was thought to be destined for a glittering future at the club. Hence, the nickname of ‘Next Nemanja Vidic’ became very familiar well before he arrived at the Theatre of Dreams.

Although the 28-year-old Englishman has won a number of trophies with the club, it is safe to say that he has failed to deliver on those incredibly high expectations.

It could be a bitter resolution, but Jones is now deemed as a surplus to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s requirements. At the start of the season, he was denied a berth in both Manchester United’s Champions League squad and Premier League squad.

More from Manchester United News

Since Solskjaer became the manager of the Red Devils, Phil Jones has racked up only 26 appearances in all competitions, having remained out of the side for most of the time due to various injury issues.

According to Todofichajes, Manchester United want to secure a sale for Jones and pocket a transfer fee in return amidst the financial conundrum caused by the pandemic. And Inter Milan are set to provide the Red Devils with the opportunity. The Serie A club will offer a loan deal for the defender in the next transfer window.

As per the story, Jones is ready to join his former teammates, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young, in Italy. But United will only allow him to leave only if the aforementioned offer holds an option of a permanent sale.

Jones is under contract with United until June 2023, and a move to Inter could provide the English centre-back with the best possible way to rejuvenate his career once again because at this point of time it does not look like he has much of a future at Old Trafford.
