Bayer Leverkusen have solidified their interest in the Manchester United youngster ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the Manchester United manager a little over two years back, he was tasked with restoring the club’s prestige. His definite aim was to take the Red Devils back to the pinnacle of English football, and even perhaps European football.

United currently sit third on the Premier League table and if they beat Leicester City this weekend, then they will go up to second. Everton will have the opportunity to take that spot later on, although Carlo Ancelotti’s side have played a game more.

Then comes the January transfer window, where the Norwegian manager might be thinking of bringing in a couple of new faces to Old Trafford. But the general consideration is that there will be more outs than ins next month.

And should that be true, then the recent report from Sky Sports might hold something to it. According to the UK-based publication, Bayer Leverkusen have shown firm interest in Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams.

The report believes that the German side want to sign him on a permanent deal, while the Red Devils won’t allow the Englishman to leave unless it is a short-term loan.

Bayer Leverkusen had signed Santiago Arias last summer. But having played just one game for his new club, the 28-year-old Colombian broke his ankle and damaged his ligament in an awful collision against Venezuela in an international game last October. As confirmed by the club, he will be out for at least six months.

And the apparent title challengers for the Bundesliga crown are feeling the dire need of a new right-back. Williams, who can play both down the left and the right, is thought to be one of the main picks to fill that void.

The 20-year-old English full-back has had made only one league appearance for United this season, thanks to the arrival of Alex Telles from Porto in the summer transfer window.

The story suggests that Williams is likely to be loaned out in January, with Premier League club Southampton also keen to acquire the youngster’s services.
