Manchester United’s January transfer plans have been revealed and it is not good news for those expecting a squad overhaul.

There’s good news and there’s bad news when it comes to Manchester United’s transfer plans.

The good news is that the club are targeting to have two quality players available in each position as they look to turn the club into Premier League contenders once again. The bad news is that that is not going to happen this January.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are targeting four new signings – a winger, a defensive midfielder, a centre-back and a right-back – in order to complete their squad overhaul. These moves are expected to be made in the next summer transfer window though.

It looks like the club have already drawn out their list of targets and will only make a move if they become available in January. Otherwise, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to use the squad that he has at his disposal in order to secure Champions League qualification and hopefully win a trophy.

This is a double-edged sword to be very honest. It is common knowledge that you have to pay over the odds to buy players in January. And it is a market driven by the desperation of the clubs to buy more than anything else. Also, most clubs are not ready to let their best players leave in the middle of the season. Thus, it is always a better idea to go after players in the summer.

But then, that doesn’t mean that good deals are not available in January. It was just in the last winter transfer window that the club brought in Bruno Fernandes and we all know how that turned out. Also, if the club fail to secure Champions League qualification, which is a possibility considering how tight the league looks this season, then it will make it very difficult to attract top players to Old Trafford.
