Jesse Lingard is another who was rumoured to be leaving Manchester United at one stage of the transfer window. The Englishman has never been able to fully cement his place in the starting XI and whenever he has, he’s been largely inconsistent. Aside from a good spell of form in late 2018 under Jose Mourinho, Lingard’s career at the club has been full of ups and downs.

That being said, there are plenty of things to appreciate about his style of play and what he brings to the team. In an ideal world, he is perfect for the counter-attacking approach and high-press style that Solskjaer intends to create at Old Trafford.

The signing of Bruno Fernandes and Donny van De Beek has made matters harder for him, to say the least. His performance against Luton Town in the League Cup was an encouraging one, however, it will take a lot more from him to convince the United hierarchy that he can contribute to the long-term future of the club.

After having gone through some personal troubles of his own last season, Lingard looks to kick on and make the most of his time this year, and hopefully stay at his boyhood club for the foreseeable future.
