Manchester United are eager to bolster their attacking options this summer.

With Red Devils being in the touching distance of a Champions League spot in the Premier League, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is planning ways to bridge the gap between his side and league contenders Liverpool and Manchester City.

After a substantial amount of investment to reinforce the defence by signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, Solskjaer eyes attack as an area which needs to be addressed to elevate United’s standards by a notch.

Currently, Jadon Sancho is the name on everyone’s lips wherever Manchester United is mentioned as the club faithful are excited with a prospect of the English winger forming a potentially devasting attacking trio alongside Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

Not only is attack an area of priority but United are also eager to embellish their attacking midfield department which, already, has Bruno Fernandes in its ranks. But, Solskjaer is keen to add depth to his squad so that his side could challenge on all fronts next season.

Aston Villa have slapped an £80 million price tag on their skipper Jack Grealish. However, the price could depreciate to nearly as half of the mentioned figure if the Lions are relegated to the Championship for the upcoming campaign. Man United, as suggested, are willing to spend in the region of £45m for the English midfielder.

Given the ongoing financial crisis owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Manchester United are planning to optimise their spending numbers this summer as they are reticent to splash big on a single player. And, to keep the net spend margin lower, the Stretford club is planning on a string of player sales in the transfer market.

Operating in such an economic climate, Manchester United, given their lofty ambitions, must be monitoring Grealish’s alternatives should the Villians are unwilling to accept the cut-price for their captain.

James Rodriguez, who is in search of a new challenge, could be an intriguing option for Solskjaer to consider.

According to Sport via Sport Witness, the Columbian superstar is seeking a move away from Santiago Bernabeu this summer after cutting a lonely figure on the substitute bench, finding himself behind Isco and Federico Valverde in the midfield pecking order.

In search of regular football under Zinedine Zidane, the 29-year-old opted to stay with Real Madrid after a loan spell with Bayern Munich. But, the decision proved to be futile as the French tactician pushed Rodriguez away from his plans.

Now, determined to resurrect his career elsewhere, James Rodriguez’s entourage have begun dialogues with the representatives of various European clubs. Manchester United, who were interested in player’s services after the World Cup 2015, according to Sport’s report, is the attacking midfielder’s coveted destination.

Shifting of Man United’s recruitment policy towards the 25-year-old bracket makes it hard to imagine Rodriguez making a switch to Old Trafford this summer, as things stand. However, things could take an opposite turn should Solskjaer consider making an experienced addition to his squad.
