Spanish giants tried to raid Manchester United for yet another player

Barcelona reportedly ‘agreed’ a transfer with this Manchester United star.

The list of players to have represented both Manchester United and Barcelona is a distinguished one. The likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gerard Pique as well as Laurent Blanc feature on it. It is unsurprising considering the gigantic stature of the two sides.

Both Barcelona and United are global brands recognised worldwide and with some of the largest fanbases in the world.

Recently there have been reports of Marc Jurado arriving to Old Trafford from the Catalans, as well as reports linking Aaron Wan-Bissaka with a move to the Nou Camp.

And it seems that the move for Wan-Bissaka is not the first time Barcelona tried to raid United in the last couple of years.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness, Barcelona had all but ‘agreed’ a deal with Marcus Rashford to bring him to the Nou Camp back in 2018, with the player ‘excited’ about the prospect of joining the Catalans. Barcelona were looking forward to bringing the United star in as a potential long term replacement for Luis Suarez.

In the end, however Rashford had a ‘quick change of heart’ and decided to remain at Old Trafford.

The report will be a surprising one for many Red Devils faithful, but at the time, Rashford was out of favour at Old Trafford under the leadership of Jose Mourinho.

Thankfully, in the end the Portuguese manager ended up departing the club, and Marcus Rashford has returned to the starting line-up and has blossomed ever since.

This season prior to his injury, Marcus Rashford was United’s best player on the field. His goals, skills and pace were crucial in ensuring the Red Devils remained within touching distance of a top four spot in the Premier League during a dire spell for the club.

Barcelona are still looking at a replacement for Luis Suarez, though it seems Marcus Rashford’s affinity with United has only become stronger and the task of prizing him away will be even more difficult.

Now it looks like the Catalans are targeting a different Man United star, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka lined up as replacement for Nelson Semedo according to Don Ballon.
