According to the reports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s Manchester United are interested in making a deal for a left-back in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Since the pandemic hit the footballing world and pulled a break on the actions, newspapers and media outlets have shown immense interest in covering all the transfer rumours hovering around the European heavyweights. And as expected, Manchester United, due to their European powerhouse status, have secured a centre spot in the unfurling gossip.

A plethora of players have already been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford to date. And unless something unusual happens, the list of players linking with a move to the Mancunian club would extend day by day.

Despite being linked to numerous names, United went on to make only three signings last summer, namely Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Harry Maguire.

And in the winter transfer window, after spending some more, the Red Devils secured the services of Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo. Though, with United reluctant to offer an extension, the latter one is expected to leave as his loan deal is set to expire on May 31.

Over the years, United have spent much on their transfers. Nevertheless, they have never got the success their fans always hoped for at the start of a season.

However, under the management of Solskjaer, the team’s overall performances have shown glimpses of improvement of late.

While it seems as if the team’s steering is currently in the good hands, they need some more acquisitions in order to close the gaps between the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, sports journalist Duncan Castles confined that Manchester United are looking at AS Monaco’s Fodé Ballo-Touré as a potential left-back signing.

The 23-year-old has been a pivotal member of AS Monaco’s senior side, making 18 appearances in the Ligue 1 this season. While playing as a left-back, the Frenchman has kept a passing accuracy of 82.4% and has completed 0.8 key passes per game in the French league.

While we can’t underestimate Duncan Castles as a source as he was the first to confirm Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s transfer to United last summer, the only reason why Manchester United could be interested in another left-back, despite knowing that they have two excellent players in Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams to fill that position, is the injury crisis.

Luke Shaw, in his Manchester United career, has suffered from various kind of injuries which has eventually dawdled his development as a full-back. And should any serious injury comes to strike Shaw yet again, a back-up option should be needed.
