According to recent reports, Manchester United are all set to make an important move in the future of Odion Ighalo amidst the current crisis in football.

After Manchester United recruited Daniel James, Harry Maguire, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka last summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjær took a break from spending more and decided to embark on a new campaign with a somewhat depleted squad.

Even though the Red Devils started the campaign on a high, beating Chelsea at Old Trafford with a thumping 4-0 scoreline, injuries would soon come to thwart the Red Devils excellent run of form and highlight Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s lack of squad depth.

First Martial, then Pogba and finally Rashford – three of Manchester United’s most important superstars became the victims of a long-term injury crisis.

Following their injury, Man United started to plummet down on the Premier League table. The poor run of results almost saw Solskjaer face the sack.

However, the Norwegian somehow managed to reach that point when the transfer window reopened. It was the time of the January transfer market – a period when no one thinks of securing a big deal.

Still, Manchester United went all out to land one of their long-term targets, Bruno Fernandes. After joining United for a transfer fee around £46.5m from Sporting Lisbon, the Portuguese midfield sensation added the spark that United had been missing for years.

But the search was not over yet for the manager. With Rashford dealing with his miserable back injury, all Solskjær needed was a back-up striker. Stories surrounding the club started gathering pace as two names were mentioned as the favourites – Islam Slimani and Odion Ighalo.

When United faithful started imagining that they were going to play the rest of the season without a back-up striker, the Mancunian side secured a loan move for the latter of the two, until the end of the season on the final day of the transfer window.

As things stand now, United are looking to make Odion Ighalo’s loan move permanent, the newly-emerged report from Independent believes.

Since completing his dream move to Manchester United, the 30-year-old Nigerian has proved his worth to the manager, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist after playing 318 minutes across all competitions.

Manchester United are still in the FA Cup and Europa League. And should football resumes shortly, Odion Ighalo could play a pivotal part for Solskjær’s side.

Besides, Mason Greenwood, 18-year-old graduate from United’s academy, has been in terrific form. Granting Odion Ighalo a permanent move could help ease the pressure off Greenwood and focus on his development. While signing another forward who would be around his mid-20s, could hinder the youngster’s progress.

So the move to sign Odion Ighalo could be a smart one by the Red Devils.
