According to the latest reports, Manchester United could make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer however that could be an unnecessary mistake.

For half a decade, he was the Manchester United number seven. Cristiano Ronaldo would twist and turn and he would make the Stretford End at Old Trafford marvel and gleam at the sight. Ronaldo had the uncanny ability to slalom past defenders with ease as if they weren’t even there.

His shot was deadly. Lethal. When he unleashed his powerful drives towards the goal, the end result would usually be the same with the ball thumping into the back of the net.

Cristiano Ronaldo was a phenom. He led the Red Devils single-handedly. He was adored by the United faithful. He was the Red Devils’ idol.

Having established himself as a world-star at the club, for years many were adamant his loyalty would not be swayed.

However in the end, Real Madrid’s cajoling words proved irresistible for even Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils could do nothing more than to watch their favourite depart for pastures new and a world record fee.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure left a gaping hole at Old Trafford. For years those who have worn the number seven shirt in his wake have been nothing short of catastrophic flops and the Red Devils have struggled to replace the Portuguese number seven’s influence on the pitch.

United have not had a single world-class winger in their ranks since Ronaldo’s departure over a decade ago.

At the same time, Cristiano Ronaldo has conquered everything at Real Madrid. At 35 years, he is now at Juventus and still at his peak having scored 25 goals in 33 games for the Turin based outfit this season.

Yet amidst the current situation, with clubs set for major financial losses Ronaldo’s future at Juventus has come under scrutiny and the Portuguese number seven has been linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford.

However, bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club would be a hefty mistake by the Red Devils.

The Portuguese superstar at 35 years old does not have many years left at the top, it would be a risk to bring him on for a high fee with Juventus probably wanting at least somewhere around £80 million for the services of their ace.

Ronaldo does not fit Solskjaer’s philosophy of trying to build a team for the future and would merely be a temporary solution.

A transfer for Jadon Sancho would make much more sense.

What do you think, should United bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club?
