Manchester United: Red Devils identify perfect Haaland alternative

After missing out on the sensational Erling Braut Haaland it seems Manchester United have lined up the perfect alternative in his place.

Very rarely does one see the exceptional talent of a teenager accelerate so rapidly as Erling Braut Haaland’s. The young Norwegian forward was an unknown prior to this season. He made headlines in the summer scoring nine goals at the U20 World Cup but that appeared as a mere fluke at first. Only for it to be proved so decisively and emphatically wrong. Since then Erling Haaland has taken the footballing world by storm. His performances in the Champions League were incredible as was his prolific goalscoring record for Red Bull Salzburg during the first half of the season. Quite rightly the young Norwegian attracted the interests of Manchester United who seemed so close to clinching a deal before Borussia Dortmund swooped in and convinced Haaland to go to Germany instead.

Now United have come up against a damn. The fairy tale reunion of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erling Haaland has remained just that – a fantasy and nothing more.

Solskjaer has been forced to look at other targets to reinforce his attack and give the Red Devils that extra fire power they so desperately need in order to return to the Champions League.

And it seems that merely a week after missing out on Erling Haaland, Solskjaer may have just found the perfect alternative for the young Norwegian striker. That alternative is the Mexican and Wolverhampton forward Raul Jimenez. According to Goal via the Metro Manchester United ‘have made contact’ over the signature of the Mexican forward.

While he may not be the exciting signing Erling Haaland would have been, Raul Jimenez could be an equally astute addition. The Mexican is already proven in the Premier League and he has been leading the line with great success at Wolves which is exactly what Solskjaer needs.

United have a history of bringing the best out of Mexican strikers too, Javier Hernandez endured a great spell at Old Trafford and Jimenez could be the next in line to take the throne.
