Manchester United: Solskjaer close to signing world class defender

The Manchester United boss wants to reinforce his defence and he has found the perfect solution to make a move for in the January transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not had the best of luck in terms of his Manchester United defence. The Norwegian boss has failed to solidify the team and often the Red Devils have been exposed by some shaky defending.

Just last week Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were embarrassed by bottom of the Premier League, Watford, in a shocking 2-0 defeat. Huge defensive errors were made in that game with Watford able to carve open the United defence at every opportunity.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s spent a hefty fee on defensive reinforcements in the summer with the acquisitions of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace at right back and Harry Maguire from Leicester City at centre back.  While neither have done particularly badly since joining Old Trafford the two players have not settled in smoothly either at Manchester United.

With the defence still being exposed, the problems which were prominent last season are still yet to be resolved by the Manchester United boss. And with United desperate to get back to the pinnacle of the footballing world it is clear Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must do something drastic in order to solidify his defence.

A strong defensive signing can have a major impact on a team. Take Virgil Van Dijk’s transformative arrival at Liverpool for an example. It seems Solskjaer could soon be on the brink of making a signing of that ilk for Manchester United. According to transfer expert Ian McGarry via the Daily Express Manchester United have begun ‘talks’ with the Italian side Napoli over the transfer of their centre back Kalidou Koulibaly.

Kalidou Koulibaly is considered as one of the best centre backs in world football at the moment. He has dominated the Serie A with his solid defensive displays and has put in some strong performances against the likes of Liverpool in the Champions League.

Alongside Harry Maguire the pair could form a formidable partnership and the Manchester United fans will be hoping Solskjaer can lure the Senegalese defender to Old Trafford. Kalidou Koulibaly could be a hugely exciting signing for the club.
