Manchester United suffered a terrible defeat to the side routed to the bottom of the Premier League and none of the men in red impressed.

The Red Devils were hugely disappointing during their visit to Vicarage Road against Watford on Sunday afternoon. Despite going into the game strong with some solid results on the bounce, the Manchester United players looked a shadow of their former selves.

Manchester United were lethargic and lacked cohesion in midfield. There was no sense of creativity and the team played aimlessly without seeming to have an agenda or direction. Th Red Devils were outclassed by the Watford players who played with a rigid defence and full of energy on the pitch. They tormented the Manchester United players throughout the game and created far better and far more chances.

The Manchester United performance was appalling and very far away from how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would like his team to play. It is clear some of the players need to up their game massively if they are to have a future at the club.

Here are the player ratings for the game against Watford.

Goalkeeper: David De Gea – 2

The United goalkeeper made a horrendous blunder to gift Watford the lead and he looked shaky throughout the game far from his best.

Right back: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4

The right back made some great excellent last ditch challenges but ultimately gave a penalty away and he didn’t look comfortable on the ball at times.

Centre Back: Harry Maguire – 3

He looked out of shape and as if he didn’t quite know what was going on. Maguire was bullied by Troy Deeney.

Centre Back: Victor Lindelof – 3

Just like Maguire Lindelof also looked out of his depth and was exposed several times by the surging Watford attack.

Left Back: Luke Shaw – 2

Shaw looked slow and he was caught out of position several times. Ismail Sarr dominated the game against him.

Central Midfielder: Scott McTominay – 4

The Scottish midfielder failed to keep the cohesiveness of the United midfield and had a poor game.

Central Midfielder: Fred – 4

The Brazilian tried his best to cut through the tight Watford defence but his efforts were to no avail and his defence contributions were meek.

Attacking Midfielder: Jesse Lingard – 3

He missed a huge chance which could have given United the lead in the first half and was non-existent before being substituted.

Right Winger: Daniel James – 2

The Welsh winger hardly touched the ball and made very little contributions going forward.

Left Winger: Marcus Rashford – 4

United’s star man tried his best but nothing worked for him in this game and he often looked out numbered.

Forward: Anthony Martial – 3

He hardly touched the ball in the first half and didn’t look comfortable as the out and out forward.

Substituions:

Mason Greenwood – 4

The young forward didn’t get to touch the ball as often as he did but he looked dangerous when he did.

Juan Mata – 2

He made no impact when he came on, missed a great free-kick opportunity right at the end.

Paul Pogba – 6

Looked sharp and instigated many of United’s attacks, it is clear the Frenchman is sorely needed at Old Trafford.
