Thanks to Ander Herrera, Manchester United have the chance to end the season with silverware.

The first half of the FA Cup semi-final looked abysmal. In the end, Herrera’s goal made all the difference for United to advance to the final. The match got off to a rough start, with an early goal from Tottenham’s Dele Alli. However, Manchester United refused to be beaten.

Shortly after Tottenham’s early goal, Paul Pogba crossed the ball to Alexis Sanchez, and the Chilean scored off of a falling header. Manchester United woke up, and the rest of the game was much different.

Historically, Manchester United are favorites to win it all. For instance, the Red Devils have been champions in the FA Cup for a grand total of 12 times, winning the competition in 2016 under Louis van Gaal.

Furthermore, Tottenham’s defeat to Manchester United is one instance of many where the team failed to achieve. For example, according to The Guardian, the Spurs have lost in the FA Cup semifinal for a total of 8 times. Additionally, the club has not secured significant silverware within the last decade.

At first, it looked as if Tottenham would come out victorious and end their losing streak, but they failed to capitalize on a couple early opportunities. In the first half of the FA Cup semifinal, there was not much for United to be proud of.

Come the second half, Ander Herrera kicked into high gear to carry Manchester United through to the final.

While Tottenham still had numerous chances to score, they could not get the ball past an in-form David de Gea. Herrera made all the difference in the semifinal matchup between the two English giants. For instance, the Spaniard played consistently accurate passes to his teammates. In addition, the midfielder knew when to make runs when it proved advantageous for Manchester United.

On United’s second goal, Herrera made a run into the box, and slotted the ball under Michel Vorm. Herrera’s combination with his teammates reminded United supporters what they were missing when he was injured. Jose Mourinho can thank Herrera for making a significant impact on the game, and ultimately, taking United to the FA Cup final.
