Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United start their exciting new season with plenty to look forward to. New signings, Champions League football and a manager notorious for his second seasons in charge. Could it all go right for the Red Devils?

August- October 2017

Aside from the exciting game against Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup to determine the best team in Europe, Jose’s Manchester United actually have a relatively easy start in their bid for Premier League glory. 3 games, each a week apart, against Swansea, West Ham and Leicester should be straightforward.

All 3 clubs are somewhat in uncertain circumstances and don’t necessarily have the stability needed to trouble Manchester United. Of course, football is an unpredictable game so no complacency should creep into the players minds. In September, Stoke and Southampton away from home should be tricky fixtures.

Stoke are always tough to beat at their stadium and Southampton proved last season that they won’t go down easily. In October is where it gets serious with Liverpool away and Tottenham at home. Mourinho will be keen to up last season’s performances against top sides and what better way to start then in October?

November 2017- January 2018

The Christmas period is always when teams make or break their seasons and it’s no different for Manchester United. They start November off with an away game against defending champions Chelsea and end the month against Watford at Vicarage Road, where the Red Devils surprisingly fell to a 3-1 defeat last season. Mourinho will be fired up to make amends.

December starts off horribly with back to back games against Manchester City and Arsenal. If Jose’s Manchester United are challenging for the title by that time then points against this pair would be crucial to maintaining any type of form. The month also ends with 3 games played in the span of one week and if the squad isn’t fresh, unlikely results could become more likely.

The New Year’s game on the 1st of January is a tough away game against Everton who are doing serious business in the transfer window but there is a period of rest before the next game. Hopefully the squad will be fresh enough for an away game versus Tottenham who should be up there with the best teams in the Premier League.

February- May 2018

3 games in February is a welcomed sight but Chelsea at home towards the end of the month will prove tough. Whether it is Conte leading his men or not, we can expect the Blues to be a real challenge at this time of the year. Newcastle away may prove tricky too.

March has 4 fixtures spread apart quite well but it’s unlikely to help with a feisty game against Liverpool at Old Trafford. If Mourinho’s Manchester United are to end any type of Liverpool challenge, the time do so would be now. April starts with an away game against Manchester rivals City and ends with Arsenal coming by for a visit at home.

Last season Arsenal proved to be a game where Mourinho really decided to put all his eggs in one basket so hopefully this time around the team can do the fans justice by giving it a real go instead. May is relatively quiet with Brighton away and the season ends with Watford at home. Hopefully both games conclude a great Manchester United season!
