Manchester United: Which full-backs should van Gaal target in January?

The captain of Shakhtar Donetsk for a number of years, Darijo Srna was linked with a move to Old Trafford last winter as Louis van Gaal looked to replace Rafael Da Silva.

The 33 year old would be a fantastic short-term replacement and would fit in with Louis van Gaal’s love of multi-functional players with his ability to play in midfield too. He would also bring some experience to a rather youthful set of defenders at the club and going forward, his set piece delivery would match anyone at the club.

With his contract in Ukraine set to expire in the summer, van Gaal could opt for a cut-price deal to bring him in during the winter market. Whether Srna would welcome a move to Old Trafford to provide cover is a different matter entirely but it’s an option that should certainly be explored if van Gaal is keen to bolster his options.
