Man United need to have a serious reshuffle this summer. While the club has been on a downward trajectory, albeit some seasons more impressive than others, since Sir Alex Ferguson left, last season was simply inexcusable and desperate times call for desperate measures.
So, should Man United fire their entire squad and sign a squad full of new players? No, that's not how it works. even if that seems like the best course of action, Man United must be methodical.
Ruben Amorim has a serious task on his hand, but he's more than aware of that. Outspoken pundit and club legend Gary Neville has offered his two cents on who should be sold, and one name wouldn't have even been in the conversation a few years ago.
You won’t believe which Man United player Gary Neville said ‘has to leave’
According to Gary Neville, there are four Man United players who must be sold more than anyone else this summer. Those players are Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho.
Sure, the latter three, we can understand. However, it still feels weird to consider Marcus Rashford in the "must-sell" category, considering everything he has given to the club.
Speaking on the It's Called Soccer podcast, Neville said: “Marcus Rashford has to leave for him and the club."
When Marcus Rashford first burst onto the scene as a youngster, scoring a plethora of goals in the Europa League and even against Arsenal, no less, no fan could have foreseen what he was about to achieve at the club. Not necessarily in the way of trophies, but more leaving behind a club legacy.
Gary Neville is spot-on, as harsh as it sounds
That said, now that his legacy is firmly in place, no fan would have even considered selling Rashford, let alone having him in a 'must-sell' category.
However, Neville's comments are a sign of the times. They show that Man United is in a do-or-die period of time where they have to be serious about their goals and shipping off anybody who doesn't align with them.
Respectfully, if Man United were to return to their superclub days with players like Rashford, they would have done so by now. After all, he's been given many opportunities as the main man.
Spending some time on loan at Aston Villa has shown that there's still a great player in Marcus Rashford. Unfortunately for any United fans clinging onto hope - The Rashford era is over.
