Manchester United face Arsenal in the team's season opener on Sunday (August 17) and it is a fixture every Premier League fan looks out for. While the Red Devils aren't the title-challenging side they once were, they have been a nuisance for the Gunners during Mikel Arteta's reign.
One of United's most impressive performances under Ruben Amorim thus far came in the FA Cup against the North Londoners. Even when the team is it at it's lowest, players gear up to face one of the club's longtime rivals.
With Amorim and Arteta's men set to do battle this weekend, we've taken a look at the top five games between two English football heavyweights.
"I've only been here a short time, but it's already fantastic. I can already feel that we're going to be a big family. It's a pleasure to be a part of it.
5 - Robin Good: Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal (November 3, 2012)

Robin van Persie took just three minutes to make Arsenal fans' worst fears come true. The Dutch forward had made a controversial move to United in the summer of 2012 after growing concerned over the direction the Gunners were headed.
All the pre-match talk was about Van Persie coming up against his former side and he lapped up all the attention. Sir Alex Ferguson's men worked the ball into the box and Thomas Vermaelen's tame clearance fell to the deadly Dutchman who fired home an opener.
Patrice Evra would add a second with a neat header courtesy of Wayne Rooney's cross in the 67th minute. Santi Carzola gave the hosts a slight fright late on with a 90th-minute strike but RVP's goal had proven decisive and it was one of his Golden Boot-winning 26 goals scored in Ferguson's farewell season.
4. Dwight's Destruction - Manchester United 6-1 Arsenal (February 25, 2001)

It's not very often a player nets a hat-trick in meetings between two of English football's powerhouses. That's why you could argue that Dwight Yorke's greatest performance in a United shirt was in the 6-1 demolition job in February 2001.
Yorke was quick out the gates to put the hosts in front in just the second minute although the visitors equalised through Thierry Henry 12 minutes later. But Ferguson's men dominated from there on out and four more goals arrived by half time.
The Red Devils headed in 5-1 up courtesy of a 19-minute Yorke hat-trick and he turned provider for Roy Keane. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also on target before Teddy Sheringham made it six late on in the second half.
United's win extended their lead at the top of the league to 16 points. It proved to be the end of the line for Wenger's North Londoners' title challenge.
3. Wenger Woes: Manchester United 8-2 Arsenal (August 28, 2011)

The image of Arsene Wenger stood amongst the Old Trafford faithful during his most humiliating day as Arsenal manager is one that United fans will never forget. The Frenchman watched his Gunners side be destroyed by a rampant Red Devils side.
Danny Welbeck, Ashley Young (2), Wayne Rooney (3), Luis Nani, and Park Ji-Sung (2) were all on target in a goalscoring frenzy that is the heaviest league defeat Wenger tasted. Theo Walcott and Robin van Persie gave the Gunners some sign of life but their goals was mere consolations.
It was a brutal affair that indicated just how far the gap was between the two sides at the time. Wenger
2. Battle of the Buffet - Manchester United 2-0 Arsenal (October 24, 2004)

If any Hollywood director were to choose a Premier League match to make into the next move on the big screen it would likely be this one. It had everything: drama, goals, twists and turns and even a pizza being thrown at Sir Alex.
This was one of the most hotly-contested games between the two rivals and one of the most important in both clubs' history. Ruud van Nistelrooy opened the scoring from the penalty spot in contentious fashion before Wayne Rooney struck late on.
United had just pulled off a major feat, ending the Gunners' 49-game unbeaten run that saw them become Invincibles in 2003-04. But the major talking point came in the tunnel post-match when arguing resulted in a food fight of sorts and Cesc Fabregas leaving Fergie with an unwanted pizza slice.
1. "The Greatest Game in the Modern era" - Arsenal 1- 2 Manchester United (April 14, 1999)

When one hears of the Match of the Day theme the image of Ryan Giggs chucking his shirt off after netting one of football's greatest solo goals springs to mind. The Welshman conjured up one of the most magical moments in FA Cup history to help United beat Arsenal back in April 1999.
It was always a big occasion when the two sides met at the height of their footballing rivalry in the 1990s and early 2000s. But this was different with a place in the final on the line as they went to war at Highbury.
David Beckham opened the scoring with an excellent finish before Denis Bergkamp equalised. The drama then unfolded when Roy Keane was sent off for a second bookable offence.
It looked to have gone from bad to worse for Ferguson's troops when Ray Parlour went down in the box following a challenge from Phil Neville. A penalty was awarded but Bergkamp couldn't find a way past Peter Schmeichel.
Extra time was required to try and seperate the Gunners and ten-man United. Giggs took matters into his own hands, pulling off a masterful solo run and finishing it off with an exquisite finish to win the game that The Guardian's Rob Smyth called "the greatest game of the modern era".
