Ruud van Nistelrooy's First Lineup

Van Nistelrooy put out a strong lineup in his first match as interim Manchester United manager, which was incredibly evident in the first half. Andre Onana came out of goal, with the Dutch coach choosing Altay Bayindir instead. The starting back four was unchanged, except for Victor Lindelof coming in for Noussair Mazraoui. Christian Eriksen was replaced by Manuel Ugarte, who started alongside Casemiro. The attack remained unchanged, with Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Alejandro Garnacho starting again. Joshua Zirkee replaced Rasmus Hojlund up front.

The Dutchman's lineup was experienced and boasted plenty of talent to show off at Old Trafford. His bench also featured high-profile names, along with some fresh, young talent, like Harry Amass and Ethan Wheatley, the latter who came on as a substitute late in the second half.

Manchester United Can Score

The first half featured six goals, four of those by the Red Devils. These goals proved that Manchester United can be clinical in front of goal. Casemiro found himself on the scoresheet with a brace, and his 15th minute goal was an absolute rocket. Garnacho scored once again and provided an assist for Casemiro.

Fernandes joined Casemiro with a brace, albeit one of his goals coming from a wicked deflection off a free kick. The side have struggled to produce in front of goal recently, but fans will be happy to see a solid performance with five goals. The Red Devils finished with a total of 23 shots, nine of them on goal. More production like this will be crucial going forward in the season.

Solid Play All Around The Field

Although they conceded two goals, Manchester United looked much more comfortable defensively than they did against West Ham at the weekend. The back four played well off each other, providing Bayindir with the needed support.

Ugarte, Casemiro, and Fernandes dominated in the midfield. Ugarte looked extremely confident and played the best he has so far in a United jersey. His pass distribution was phenomenal and his challenges were well timed. Casemiro also looked far more confident than he has recently, in part due to his two goals.

United controlled the play in the first half, having the majority of the possession. They finished the game with 57% of the ball and a passing accuracy of 87%. The Red Devils accrued 560 passes over Leceister's 431 passes.

Van Nistelrooy's First Win

The Dutchman celebrated the win like it was a cup final win. In his first game as caretaker manager, Van Nistelrooy turned the tide in his favor with the 5-2 win. It is undecided how long the club's iconic former striker will be in charge, but he made a name for himself as a manager against Leicester. Manchester United hopes to secure another win against Chelsea this weekend.
