Fans are in two minds over Ruben Amorim's decision to leave a Manchester United player out of his squad for the encounter with Arsenal today (August 17). Some feel he's sent a message regarding the standards he desires while others think the club have handled the situation poorly.
The Red Devils face the Gunners at Old Trafford in their season opener and speculation had grown over who'd make Amorim's squad let alone starting XI. There has been one player in particular whose future has been up in the air.
Rasmus Hojlund has been linked with an exit amid the arrival of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. It seems his Old Trafford career is over.
Fans respond to Amorim's decision over Hojlund whose United career is "over"
The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell reports that Hojund has been left out of the United squad for the game against Arsenal. He has been told that he "faces a challenge to get minutes" and several clubs are showing interest.
This has been relayed by Fabrizio Romano who insists that it's "definitely over". The club are looking to sell permanently but also could be open to a loan deal.

Højlund won’t be part of Man United squad against Arsenal as club sends clear message pushing for his exit.

Hojlund is a divisive figure because he has shown desire to stay and fight for his place at United who he dreamed of playing as a young boy. But his poor performances were a massive issue for Amorim last season, managing just four league goals.
Fans have given their take on the latest development regarding the Danish frontman. One was saddened:
"This is genuinely sad. He's clearly hungry and wants to prove himself - people tend to forget how young he actually was when he arrived at United."
Another fan liked the approach:
"Love this from Amorim..Ruthless."
One supporter thought it was unjust:
"Unfair treatment for a player that wants to fight for his place in the club."
Another alluded to Sesko arriving:
"Sorry Rasmus....but Sesko better."

Where's it gone wrong for Hojlund?
Hojlund joined United from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 for £72m and was viewed as a work in progress. But he was handed the number nine starting role when the club failed to sign a proven goalscorer ready to lead the line.
The 22-year-old alluded to his age when vowing to remain at Old Trafford earlier this summer. But his displays in the Red Devils shirt have left much to be admired, not only struggling for goals but to cause any sort of problem up top with a lack of consistency shown or using his six-foot-three-inch frame.
