Ruud van Nistelrooy will quit Manchester United after the appointment of Ruben Amorim: Reports

Ruud van Nistelrooy's role as interim Manchester United boss might be cut short to just one game. The Dutchman looks to part ways with the Red Devils as soon as Ruben Amorim is announced as head coach at Old Trafford.

One of Manchester United’s most iconic players, with 150 goals, Ruud van Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford to make an impact again, but this time in the managerial phase. After joining Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff in the summer, the Red Devils were looking to improve on last season’s dismal performance and somehow elevate the club back to success.

Van Nistelrooy's appointment was primarily to help nurture players like Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Joshua Zirkzee, helping them gain confidence in front of goals and develop finishing abilities.

Manchester United had a goal difference of -1 last season, and it was the lowest goal-scoring tally in a season the club had for nearly 20 years. There was no one better than the legendary, prolific Dutchman to help the young forwards with his expertise and help the Red Devils find their touch in front of goal. It was a smart decision by INEOS, and it made good sense.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy unlikely to be a part of Ruben Amorim’s coaching staff

Van Nistelrooy, who had an impressive stint in the Eredivisie with PSV, has won 33 out of 51 games managed and has a win percentage of 65%. He will be looking to try his luck in management again as a head boss, as he refused numerous coaching offers in the summer to join Ten Hag’s coaching staff at Manchester United.

Some sources also believe the 48-year-old was tipped to take over from Ten Hag once he was sacked. With Amorim’s imminent arrival and the rest of his coaching staff, it is highly unlikely for Van Nistelrooy to stay at Old Trafford. The Telegraph reports he's likely to make way once the Portuguese tactician's appointment is official.

It all makes sense, as the Portuguese tactician would prefer familiar faces around him. This brought him so much success with Sporting, and he would want to replicate all of that with Manchester United as well. It is still yet to be announced when Amorim is looking increasingly likely to take charge of the Red Devils, but given that they can trigger his release clause and pay Sporting the required £8.2 million to capture the Portuguese immediately, the deal is closer than it seems.

Reports from Portugal claim there’s a chance Amorim will stay at Sporting until the November international break. Van Nistelrooy will be on the touchline as Manchester United boss in tonight’s game against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup Round of 16. Still, he won’t have many chances in the Old Trafford dugout to show what he can do.
