Benjamin Sesko is the eighth Slavic player to play for Manchester United. The Slovenian frontman joined the club from RB Leipzig in August 2025 for a fee of £74m including add-ons.

The 22-year-old joins an interesting list of Slavs who have pulled on the famous red jersey and walked out of the Old Trafford tunnel. There have been some hits and some misses from a region of Europe that has boasted icons of the game such as Lev Yashin and Ferenc Puskas.

Sesko will undoubtedly be looking to become a hero at the Theatre of Dreams after signing a five-year deal. But how have fellow Slavs performed in front of the Stretford End?

Red Devil Armada have ranked the best from that region of Europe based on their impact at the club, success, ability and legacy. The one major rule is that they must be Slavic.

Top 7 Slavic players in Man United history

7 - Martin Dubravka (Slovakia)

We start off with Martin Dubravka who made just two appearances for United and those came in the League Cup. He did play his part in the Red Devils ending a six-year trophy drought and claiming said cup, with his outings coming in a 2-0 win over Burnley and 4-2 victory against Aston Villa in the third and fourth round.

Dubravka, born in Zilinia, Slovakia, was a veteran shot-stopper who was meant to serve as backup to David de Gea. He did what was required but clearly wasn't happy playing second-fiddle as his loan was cut short in January 2023 and he was sent back to parent club Newcastle United.

Ironically, it was the Magpies we beat in the Carabao Cup final with Dubravka playing no part. He recieved a winners' medal which must have been a tad bit awkward.

6 - Zoran Tosic (Serbia)

You're forgiven for forgetting Zoran Tosic who had little to no impact at United during his year at Old Trafford. The Serbian attacker arrived from Partizan in January 2009 for £7m to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Nemanja Vidic.

Those two shouldn't really be mentioned in the same breath on the basis of what they accomplished with the Reds. Tosic made just five appearances and didn't manage a goal or assist, enough for Sir Alex Ferguson to send him out on loan to Cologne, although somehow we made a £1m profit selling him to CSKA Moscow the following summer.

5 - Karel Poborsky (Czech Republic)

The Czech Republic have produced some excellent attacking talent including Juventus legend Pavel Nedved. United's own Czech arrived in the summer of 1996 after the European Championships in the form of Karel Poborsky, and while his time with the club was brief, he did catch the eye on occasion.

Poborsky was part of a Red Devils side that won the Premier League in the 1996-97 season and he managed three goals in that campaign. But he couldn't hold down a place in Sir Alex's team because a certain David Beckham was on the rise and he parted ways halfway through his second year.

4 - Nemanja Matic (Serbia)

It's a shame Nemanja Matic arrived with his best years behind him because the Serbian midfielder would have been a brilliant player under Sir Alex. He was calm and composed on the ball, breaking up play while trying to get the team ticking.

The problem was that Matic arrived in the twilight of his career and lacked the pace to be a top-performing Premier League midfielder. He still had memorable moments with us, such as his incredible screamer against Crystal Palace.

3 - Andrei Kanchelskis (Russia)

There are often players whose influence on United's title-winning consistency gets lost in time. The younger fanbase don't understand how talented Andrei Kanchelskis was, an elegant dribbler who linked up perfectly with Eric Cantona and Mark Hughes.

The Ukrainian-born Kanchelskis was a key man in two title triumphs (1992-93 and 1993-94) and scored in the League Cup final win over Sheffield Wednesday in 1993. A forgotten hero who deserves more recognition.

2 - Dimitar Berbatov (Bulgaria)

The swagger of which Dimitar Berbatov carried when delivering a masterclass in leading the line was at times breathtaking. The Stretford End deserves entertainment and that's what the Bulgarian always brought, with flair, deadly finishing abilities and a superb footballing brain.

Every United fan will remember his hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Liverpool, the overhead kick that deserved a Puskas award and the spin trick against West Ham United. He was a joy to watch in a dominant Fergie side that couldn't stop winning.

1 - Nemanja Vidic (Serbia)

Who else but one of the best defenders not only in United's history but the Premier League altogether. There have been several centre-backs who have fought for the badge but none quite like Nemanja Vidic.

The Serbian put his body on the line at all costs to ensure the Reds were successful and he was the ultimate leader whose work ethic helped raise the standards of his teammates. He was also perhaps the best bargain buy in the club's history at a mere £7m.

Vidic wore the scars of war each time he stepped onto the pitch and players donning the Red of United in the post-Sir Alex era should watch his highlights. Our number one Slav comes from Serbia and he'll f***ing muder ya!
