According to Italian transfer expert Nicolo Schira, Manchester United sent scouts to watch Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in action against Juventus on Sunday.

Teun Koopmeiners, 26, stole the show in Turin as he bagged a superb brace, helping Atalanta clinch a 2-2 draw with Juventus. He gave Atalanta the lead in the first half, scoring from a well-worked Mario Pasalic’s free-kick effort from the edge of the box. With Juventus winning 2-1, the Dutch midfielder delivered another big moment and scored the equaliser with 15 minutes left to play.

With a brace at the weekend, Koopmeiners took his tally to 10 goals in Serie A 25 appearances for La Dea this season. The midfielder also has three assists to his name, as Gian Piero Gasperini’s side fight for a spot in Europe.

The Netherlands international is one of Atalanta’s most important cogs but they are willing to sell him at the right price this summer. The Serie A side will consider offers in the region of €60m for Koopmeiners amid interest from several European clubs, Schira adds.

Red Devil Armada’s verdict:

Manchester United have been far too open in midfield for their liking this season, with opposition teams finding it very easy to cut through us and score goals. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team need to bring in midfield reinforcements in the summer, and Teun Koopmeiners could prove to be an upgrade on ageing stars like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

Considered to be among the best midfielders in Serie A, Koopmeiners has been outstanding for Atalanta over the last couple of years and is certainly good enough to play for our club. He can play in multiple positions across the midfield and would be a solid long-term investment at Old Trafford. At 26, the Dutchman is set to enter the peak years of his career and we could largely benefit from his services.

Having signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta last summer, Man United must raid the Serie A side for the all-action Koopmeiners this time around.
