Manchester United are interested in Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel, according to journalist Florian Plettenburg.

The Bavarian striker is thought to be reconsidering his future under Thomas Tuchel as he has seen his playing time cut short this season. Former Spurs and England striker Harry Kane has taken much of the spotlight, and Eric Choupo-Moting is likely to also be on his way out in the summer when his contract expires.

It would give Tel some food for thought as he and his posse contemplate the next step in the striker’s career. It is unlikely that any real movement will happen before the summer, but a few months to assess his situation would provide the perfect amount of time for this.

According to Plettenburg, United have made contact over Tel - but it is unclear whether this is with Bayern or Tel’s agent. The player is keen on staying at Bayern due to his affirmation for the club and dream to become a Bayern great. However, that aspiration could be short lived if the current situation continues. Given Bayern’s recent horrid form, it does not leave much flexibility for Tuchel to experiment with his squad as they trail Bayern Leverkusen in the Bundesliga by 5 points after their humiliating 3-0 defeat to Xabi Alonso’s side last weekend.

This season, Tel has featured in 27 times for the Bavarians, however this number has been inflated with substitute appearances. In the league, he has only started once. Despite featuring in all of Bayern’s Champions League games this campaign, and even scoring against United in the 4-3 win against the Red Devils, he has only started in the game against Copenhagen.

Red Devil Armada’s verdict:

Mathys Tel would be a top drawer signing for the future. Along with Rasmus Højlund, they can spearhead the future generation of Manchester United’s attack. Capable of playing wide too, the Frenchman would cost a significant amount but would be an astute piece of business shoukd United look to him in the summer window.
