"One of the best players in history" - Amad Diallo tips Manchester United teammate to become a club legend
Amad Diallo has waxed lyrical about his Manchester United teammate Kobbie Mainoo and he thinks the sky is the limit for the English midfielder. The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakout 2023-24 campaign, becoming one of Erik ten Hag's most important players.
Mainoo made 31 appearances across competitions, registering five goals and one assist. He scored a memorable winner for United in a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final. His stellar performances at club level earned him a place in England's squad for Euro 2024, starting the 2-1 final defeat to Spain in Germany.
Amad has tipped Mainoo to become a legend at Old Trafford and one of the greatest players in history. He told Sky Sports:
""Talking about Kobbie is like talking about a big legend. Kobbie at his age is so good, he's an amazing player and good person, I'm real close to him. I think he's going to be one of the best players in history.""
- Amad Diallo on Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo has the tools to become a Manchester United icon
Mainoo's meteoric rise has been astounding and he's shown humility along the way, not getting carried away with the hype over him. He made his senior debut in a 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup in January 2023.
Ten Hag was ready to throw him into the first team picture at the start of last season but a pre-season injury halted his ascent. He then established himself as a regular starter with his energy, vision and footballing IQ that wowed fans at Old Trafford.
Mainoo is undoubtedly the future at United and a player whom fans are pinning their hopes on helping the club return to its glory days. Ten Hag deserves credit for his handling of the Red Devils academy graduate.
Mainoo and Amad set for contract extensions
Mainoo and Amad's importance to the Manchester United team hasn't gone unnoticed by new co-owners INEOS. Reports claim they are preparing contract extension offers for the young duo to tie them down to long-term deals.
Amad's current deal expires at the end of the season so there is pressure to get the former Atalanta winger to extend. Mainoo's contract still has just over two years left to run but his performances deserve improved terms that he'll likely be offered.
