According to a report from HITC, Manchester United have been scouting Borussia Monchengladbach left-back Luca Netz in recent weeks.

Signed from Hertha Berlin in 2021, Luca Netz, 20, has become a key figure at the back for Borussia Monchengladbach over the last two seasons. The left-back has put in a series of impressive displays this season, contributing four assists in 21 Bundesliga appearances thus far. Hence, it is not surprising that the youngster has been coveted by a series of top clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

HITC claims that Manchester United could be in the market for a new left-back in the summer amid interest in Netz, who is also on the radar of Bayern Munich. While Netz continues to be linked with top clubs across Europe, it will be interesting to see whether Borussia Monchengladbach consider selling him at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Man United’s interest in Netz stems from the lack of availability of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia this season. Shaw missed three months of football at the start of the campaign with a thigh problem and is expected to be sidelined until the end of April after aggravating a hamstring strain last month. Malacia hasn’t played a single minute this season after undergoing knee surgery and a setback in his rehab, thereby, leaving Erik ten Hag frustrated.

Ten Hag has confirmed that the medical department made assurances that both Shaw and Malacia would be fit in January, which is why he decided to cut short Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham Hotspur. With neither of them returning on the pitch anytime soon, our manager must manage with Diogo Dalot, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof at left-back for the remainder of the campaign.

Red Devil Armada’s verdict:

Luca Netz is rated among the hottest left-back prospects in the Bundesliga and it seems he has certainly done enough to catch the attention of Man United scouts. If the Germany Under-20 international continues to perform consistently for Gladbach until the end of the season, we may end up tabling a bid.

With or without Ten Hag at the helm, our club needs a new left-back and Netz could prove a solid long-term investment.
