Fabrizio Romano has given a game-changing update on Manchester United's potential pursuit of a goalkeeper and fans it could have repercussions for Andre Onana.

The Red Devils started the season with Altay Bayindir in goal for the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend. The decision wasn't because Onana had sat out pre-season with a hamstring problem but because Ruben Amorim preferred the Turk for that game.

Bayindir slipped up for the Gunners' winner which has ignited talk of Onana replacing him for the Fulham game this Sunday. But his future has been up in the air throughout the summer and United might be moving for a replacement given Romano's report.

Fabrizio Romano: Man United close to agreeing personal terms with Senne Lammens

Senne Lammens' name has popped up continuously during the transfer window as a possible option to bolster Amorim's goalkeeping ranks. The problem has been that the Portuguese has Onana, Bayindir and Tom Heaton to call upon.

The consensus has been a move for the Belgian shot-stopper would only occur if one of Onana or Bayindir departed. But the latest development regarding a possible deal could mean the club are prepared to cut ties with one of them.

Fabrizio Romano took to X to give a massive update on the situation:

"Understand Manchester United are still working on deal to sign Senne Lammens, talks underway. Personal terms are almost agreed and Man United are in active talks for the Belgian goalkeeper. (United) try to anticipate more clubs from France and Italy, also based on exits."

Lammes is one of Europe's most exciting goalkeeping talents having caught the eye at Antwerp in Belgium. He is tipped to be Thibaut Courtois' long-term successor at international level.

The 23-year-old has two years left on his contract and could be available for a reasonable price. He kept 10 clean sheets in 44 games across competitions last season.

The possibility of seeing Lammens arrive at Old Trafford has enthused fans who are keen to see Amorim backed with a new goalkeeper. Onana has struggled to be the David de Gea replacement many envisioned and Bayindir hasn't done well when filling in.

Most of fans' verdicts on signing the Belgian focus on Onana's future. They believe he may now be on his way out of the club.

One fan wrote:

"No more Onana. My life has changed."

Another supporter said:

"Andre Onana's days are numbered."

One stated:

"Really pray this is true . A new keeper is a no brainer. Really hope we sign him. Onana and Bayindir can both decide if they want to leave or stay and fight for whatever is left ."

Another insisted:

"Onana is shivering after seeing this."

Onana cost United £47.2m from Inter Milan after some fine displays at the San Siro including in the 2022-23 Champions League campaign. But he has been mistake-prone, unable to be relied upon in high-pressure situations.
