Manchester United tipped to miss out on Italian coach amid Ten Hag uncertainty
Massimiliano Allegri's close friend and mentor Giovanni Galeone has suggested the former Juventus coach might reject Manchester United to make a return to AC Milan. He feels the six-time Serie A title-winning manager could reunite with the Rossonerri who look likely to part ways with Paulo Fonseca.
Galeone spoke about what Allegri could bring to the San Siro if he were to return and replace Fonseca. He thinks he'd have a hard time turning his former employers down (via
TuttoMercato):
"His return to the current Milan side would be perfect for the strong technical qualities that they have. They have strong individuals in attack and Max would bring solidity to the defence."
Milan have started the season unconvincingly under Fonseca with three wins and two defeats in seven games. They sit sixth in the Serie A table and suffered a 2-1 loss to Fiorentina last weekend with Manchester United legend David de Gea saving two penalties for Viola.
Galeone added:
"If he were to receive an offer from [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, I think he would accept it, without a doubt."

That would potentially come as a blow to United who might be on the managerial hunt after the ongoing international break. Speculation grows over Erik ten Hag's future at Old Trafford with the club's owners meeting on Tuesday to discuss his future.
The Red Devils have been poor so far this season, losing three and winning two of seven games. Ten Hag's men sit 14th in the league and have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.
What would Massimilano Allegri bring to Manchester United?
Allegri parted ways with Juve at the end of last season with the club dissapointed in his actions in the Coppa Italia final. His fiery demeanour came to the surface and ultimately led to him departing the Allianz Stadium.
The Livorno-born coach was a success with the Old Lady, guiding them to five Scudettos. He implemented a 3-5-2 formation and oversaw 80 wins in 149 games during his second spell with the club.
Allegri likes his teams to be defensively sound which would perhaps rectify the glaring problems ensuing under Ten Hag. His pragmatic philosophy might not go down too well with the Old Trafford faithful but he has a resume of proven success.
Red Devil Armada Verdict
There is a shortage of viable candidates to replace Ten Hag should INEOS decide to sack the Dutchman. Allegri's availability makes him an attractive option but he shouldn't be high on the Red Devils' radar. His three at the back vision would be refreshing and allow new signings Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt to partner the under-fire Lisandro Martinez.
Allegri might have the temperament befitting a United manager, but his playing philosophy leaves much to be admired. If he chose Milan, it wouldn't be too much of a loss.
