Manchester United has an overwhelming amount of talent in it's youth academy. Every year, Carrington pumps out a handful of yoingsters capable of becoming top-level professional footballers, but not all can succeed.

It's why Man United use loan deals so frequently. It's not an uncommon practice for Premier League clubs, but United are one of the most prolific users of this strategy. The issue with this system means handing over the reins of a youngster's development to a different club, one with less budget and less high-level medical technology and expertise.

This flaw already showed itself this season with the loaning of Toby Collyer, who was loaned to Championship side West Brom, and then suffered a calf injury, resulting in his return from loan in January.

Unfortunately for United, the same has happened again. This time though, the damage may be even more severe.

Harry Amass reportedly suffers 'serious looking' injury while out on loan

United left-back prodigy Harry Amass is the latest Man United loanee to suffer an injury. Amass is currently out on loan at Norwich, having joined in the January transfer window after being recalled from Sheffield Wednesday. His move from Wednesday to Norwich is likely driven by the instability at Wednesday, which has been in administration since early this season.

Unfortunately for him, he has reportedly suffered a 'serious injury' in a training session. The Norwich boss Phillipe Clement shared the news to BBC Radio Norfolk:

"Harry [Amass], in the dying seconds of training, got an injury. I didn't want to speak too much about it straight after training because there was no assessment yet about it. But it looks to be serious and that he will be out for a long time.""
Phillipe Clement, BBC Radio Norfolk

It has since been reported that Harry Amass has returned to Man United's training ground to undergo further checks and potentially treatment. It is currently unknown whether he will be recalled permanently, but it largely depends on whether he will be fit to play before the end of the season.

It's devastating news for such a promising young talent. Amass has featured on multiple occasions for the Man United first team, and had a promising first six months of the season in difficult circumstances at Sheffield Wednesday. Many at the club consider Amass to be the long-term successor to current left-back Luke Shaw.

While we don't yet know the true extent of Amass' injury, based on the reaction for Norwich boss Clement, we can assume he will be out for at least a number of weeks, if not months. A serious injury at such a young age can seriously destabilise a player's development. Let's hope that Amass can get back on track this season, and maybe even be welcomed into the first-team full time next season.
