Patrick Dorgu has been in the form of his life at Manchester United. Since Ruben Amorim's harsh comments against him in November, the Danish international has been a rare bright spot for Manchester United, showcasing his ability in a variety of roles, including as a winger since Amorim's dismissal.
Dorgu has been in the form of his life since Amorim departed. In the four games since his exit, Dorgu has three goals and one assist, including a wonder goal from outside the box against Arsenal.
Dorgu's form has come at a crucial time for United. Michael Carrick's primary system requires a natural left-winger, and Dorgu is the best option for that role, despite being signed to play as a left-wing back. Dorgu's form is partially responsible for both wins against Man City and Arsenal.
Patrick Dorgu suffers hamstring injury against Arsenal
During the Arsenal game, Dorgu went down when chasing a long ball late in the second half. Dorgu was subbed off in the 81st minute, and his substitution was attributed to cramp following the game.
Now, it has been revealed by The Athletic that Patrick Dorgu suffered a hamstring injury. Initial assessments cannot be entirely trusted, but right now it has been reported that Dorgu could be out for up to 10 weeks.
This would mean Dorgu would likely not return until after the international break in March. Dorgu will undoubtedly be desperate to return prior to that in order to participate in Denmark's World Cup play-off against Scotland. Dorgu will most likely return before the end of the season, but potentially with only a handful of Premier League games left to play.
The injury is a cruel twist for Patrick Dorgu, who was finally finding his feet at Old Trafford. Dorgu has just been nominated for Manchester United's player of the month award, and was ready to kick on and help United push for Champions League football. Dorgu's confidence was at an all-time high; to fall injured now while he's in such a vein of form is a huge blow for him.
Dorgu's absence is also terrible news for Michael Carrick. Carrick was able to integrate his style so well partly due to Dorgu's ability. Without him, United will need to look elsewhere to replace him. United's style late in the game was more of a fluid front three, and it's likely this is how United will set up going forward
