Manchester United may soon make a move to upgrade their midfield. While strengthening the front three has been a priority, they could sign Wilfried Ndidi from Championship side Leicester City.

According to Ben Jacobs and Matt Smith of GiveMeSport, United are among the teams interested in signing Ndidi from Leicester.

The report notes that while Ndidi has a £9 million release clause, teams are hoping to agree a deal for around £5 million due to his high wages.

It would be a smart piece of business for Man United. Ndidi has a lot of Premier League experience, having played in 220 top-flight games since joining Leicester in 2017. He helped the Foxes win the FA Cup in the 2021-21 season, the Community Shield the following August, and played a vital role in Leicester regaining Premier League status by winning the Championship in 2023-24.

Several teams have reportedly shown interest, but we've already seen this summer how United remain a draw for top players.

The perfect example is Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. Tottenham Hotspur were among the teams linked to Mbeumo, and despite hiring Thomas Frank, who coached him at Brentford, and securing Champions League qualification, Mbeumo picked United.

That's the hope with Ndidi, who could have several teams to choose from if he leaves Leicester this summer.

For Leicester, it's the challenge of relegation. It's hard to convince key players to stay when there are options to move back into the Premier League. The Foxes found this out two years ago after being relegated, losing James Maddison and Harvey Barnes in the same transfer window.

United have a lot of work to do this summer. Signing Ndidi for £5 million would be another smart move to help Ruben Amorim rebuild the squad.
