Manchester United still need to sell several players in this transfer window, but they are finding other ways to generate funds in the meantime.

United have smartly negotiated sell-on clauses in many of their outgoing transfer deals in recent years, and it could pay off in a big way this summer. First, Real Madrid's rumored interest in Alvaro Carreras could net United as much as £7.6 million.

Only time will tell whether that happens. But an imminent move in the Premier League could once again benefit the Red Devils.

According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are close to agreeing a £55 million deal with Nottingham Forest for Anthony Elanga. Hope adds that Man United are "owed an estimated 15 per cent" of the fee if Forest sell Elanga.

If they agree to a £55 million deal, a little over £8 million of that would go to Man United.

Man United would benefit from Newcastle making a big move for Anthony Elanga

Elanga joined Man United's youth system in 2014, where he spent seven years before being called up to the senior squad. He would play in 39 Premier League games for United, scoring three goals.

In 2023, Forest signed Elanga for £15 million, where he became a key starter.

Elanga has started 56 Premier League contests with 11 goals and 20 assists since joining Forest. He helped them contend for Champions League qualification last season, with the club finishing only one point outside the top five.

A move to Newcastle would provide Elanga with Champions League football.

It's no surprise to see Forest demand such a significant fee. Elanga has been that important to their success under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Man United protected themselves to some degree by including a sell-on clause, and an £8 million fee would give them a bonus as they look to rebuild their squad this summer.
