Manchester United have expressed an interest in RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, according to Sky Germany.

Such is the tale that the Red Devils are ‘monitoring’ the situation with Werner and the German club, but no move is likely to be take a serious turn until at least next summer – despite the January transfer window being around the corner.

United have been lacking goals in the striking department when it has come to the Premier League. Rasmus Højlund is still waiting on his first Premier League goal despite being overly proficient in the Champions League. Anthony Martial scored against Everton at the weekend, but questions over his consistency and availability have always marred him from becoming a top talent.

If other reports in Germany from BILD are anything to go by, Werner is not interested in a move back to the Premier League again. He endured a difficult spell at Chelsea, where he only scored 10 Premier League goals in 56 appearances.

Despite his return to German football, he has not found the familiar ground all that comfortable. Werner has scored just 2 goals this season and has struggled to make a mark under Marco Rose’s side.

Red Devil Armada’s verdict:

It is no secret that United were after two strikers this summer, but the Glazers were not a fan of bringing Harry Kane in as well as Rasmus Højlund. As great of a talent that the Dane is, he needs a supporting act to lay some of that burden of his shoulder and an experienced head is required. Whether Werner is the right fit or not, he is the sort of profile that United could look at. Nothing is concrete as of the slightest, so there may well be better value for money out there if Ten Hag is not rushing into buying a second striker in January.
