Manchester United have confirmed that Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be out of action for ‘several weeks’, a club statement read.

The right-back briefly featured in United’s 3-1 defeat against Brighton at the weekend, after starting on the bench due to illness. The injury woes for Ten Hag continues as it signals yet another player sidelined for a lengthy period just a month into the new season.

It is personally a big blow for Aaron Wan-Bissaka himself who had established himself as United’s starting full-back this season, a massive contrast to how he started last season under Ten Hag.

Yet again, United find themselves in a position where only two fullbacks are available for selection – with Sergio Reguilon and Diogo Dalot the only two available. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are still out for the foreseeable. With midweek games now coming into play, it signals red flags for United’s medical department, who have seen too many players pick up injuries in August and September. A concern is that a lot of these injuries seem to be non contact.

In some good news for United, Raphael Varane and Mason Mount are expected to be available soon after lengthy layouts.
