Last week, it was reported that Luke Shaw will be sidelined for the foreseeable, with a timescale of ‘longer than Mason Mount’ being provided by United manager Erik Ten Hag.

United are searching for left-back’s in the transfer market ahead of deadline day, which signals that the English left back could be out for longer than feared. The Old Trafford side are short on depth in the fullback roles at present.

At left-back, Brandon Williams and Alex Telles have left the club. Alvaro Fernandez looks likely to head out on loan as well. At right-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot occupy the order. The latter is currently stepping in at left-back as he is able to play on either side, but Ten Hag would prefer a natural left-back given that they are one injury away from having no one capable of playing there. Ethan Laird left the club this summer, as he was never part of the plan to be promoted by the manager.
