Manchester United were dealt a massive injury blow as it emerged that Luke Shaw would be out of action for an extended period due to injury.
The England defender has picked up a muscle injury, but not much else has been disclosed pertaining to it. Speaking at Friday’s press conference, Erik Ten Hag said:
"“We can’t do (exact details), that personal in these days. For some period they will be absent, where Luke will be longer (than) Mason.”"
With Mason Mount expected to be out for around 4-6 weeks, this would place Shaw just beyond that at around 2 months. By that time, United will have kicked off their Champions a league campaign so the schedule of a midweek coupled with a weekend game will heavily rely on Wan-Bissaka and Dalot not picking up injuries or knock until then.
Luke Shaw’s injury adds to a depressing list of injuries that the Red Devils currently have. At left back alone, Tyrell Malacia is expected to be out for a few more weeks which leaves Diogo Dalot as the only realistic available option at left back. The other is Alvaro Fernandez, who is yet to make his competitive debut for United and could be on his way out of Old Trafford himself in coming days.
As an emergency resort, United are reportedly eyeing a move for Ryan Bertrand as a free agent.
