Report: Jonny Evans set for 1 year contract with Manchester United
Jonny Evans is on the verge of signing a one year contract with Manchester United, according to The Telegraph.
The defender had signed a short term contract with United over the summer and featured in pre-season. Ten Hag is said to have been impressed by the level of experience that Jonny Evans will bring to the squad this time around, having grown up and played for United’s senior team for 9 years already.
There was a whiff of inevitably that Ten Hag would have signed the Northern Irishman given his familiarities with Old Trafford and being an older head with a wealth of experience to his name. Furtehermkre, the player’s satisfaction at this stage of his career at 35 years old to be an emergency backup would have played a part in offering a low cost contract.
It is yet unclear if he will replace Harry Maguire in the pecking order, but with the move to West Ham falling through, it would mean that Maguire’s stay will result in Evans being 4th choice centre-back with a bigger role to play in everyday training than on matchdays.
The centre-back left Leicester City this summer and will be looking to add to his 198 appearances for United during this season.
