Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams is poised to joined Championship club Ipswich Town, according to Sky Sports.

The news was published last night on X, with a deal expected to initially be on loan with an obligation to buy.

Williams has barely featured for Erik Ten Hag’s side and is expected to exit the club in this window. The Championship team’s interest in the player is not very surprising given that they are managed by former United coach Kieran McKenna, who was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom staff. Since then, McKenna has gone on to steer Ipswich into a stable Championship side who find themselves at the top of the Championship three games into the new season. Williams is familiar with McKenna as a result, and rose to prominence under Solskjaer but has not quite lived up to any hype. This is due to a combination of injuries, lack of chances and poor performances when he has played.

United are in the processing of offloading spare parts in the squad and it would not be a surprise to see this deal go through heading into the last week of the transfer window. At left-back, Alex Telles has already left the club to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr, and Luke Shaw with Tyrell Malacia as an understudy is a position that Ten Hag has no concerns about.
