Manchester United’s Women team have completed the signing of Brazilian superstar Geyse from Barcelona, an official statement from the club read.

The 24 year old – whose full name is Geyse Da Silva Ferreira – will move to the Women’s Super League ahead of an exciting season for the Red Devils, having secured Champions League qualification for the first time. Geyse brings vast amounts of experience with her, having won the UEFA Champion’s League, Spanish Cup and Spanish Liga F title with Barcelona last summer.

On the club’s website, the player said:

"“Signing for United has been a very special day for me and my family. I am very grateful for this opportunity and thank everyone for making it happen.”"

Geyse moves to United as a replacement for the prolific Alessia Russo, who departed the club after opting not to sign a contract renewal – and signing for rivals Arsenal instead. Those are some big boots to fill, but someone of the ex-Barcelona star’s calibre and talent is more than capable to fill in the role.

Whilst some of United’s stars are preparing for the World Cup final this weekend, Geyse is ready for the new season with United after Brazil were knocked out in the group stages of the competition.
