PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare has confirmed that there is a £33 million release clause in his contract, amidst reports of United’s interest in the player. The former Ajax boss and current manager of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag, has been making use of his Eredivisie connections, with players like Lisandro Martinez, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia playing key roles in the team’s resurgence. United is linked with Orkun Kokcu, Jurrien Timber, Santiago Gimenez, Taylor Booth, and Ibrahim Sangare ahead of the summer transfer window.
Sangare, a 6ft 3ins defensive midfielder from Ivory Coast, could be a potential backup or long-term replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford. While Brighton’s Moises Caicedo may be a popular choice among United supporters, Sangare could be an affordable option. Brighton demanded £90 million for Caicedo when Arsenal showed interest in January, while Sangare’s release clause is just a third of that fee.
Manchester United could consider Ibrahim Sangara
Sangare stated in an interview with Voetbal International that the release clause provides clarity for both him and the club. He also mentioned that if that fee were to be the sale price sometime in the future, everyone would be happy.
Sangare had turned down Everton and Southampton in 2021 in favor of joining PSV. However, PSV legend Aad de Mos believes that Sangare is ready to join one of the Premier League Giants. Sangare admitted that he would take game time into account when considering his transfer to another club, saying that he wants a good perspective on playing time, especially if he were to leave PSV. He added that playing time is crucial for development and progression, and he would like to continue performing well at PSV before considering his future.
It will be interesting to see how the summer transfer window unfolds for Manchester United and whether they will make a move for Sangare. With his physicality and defensive abilities, he could prove to be a valuable asset to the team.
