Dutch defender Jurrien Timber is on the radar of Manchester United once again, as the Red Devils seek to strengthen their defence in the upcoming transfer window. The 21-year-old centre-back currently plays for Ajax, but the Dutch club is reportedly willing to listen to offers for their star player following a disappointing season. Timber, who made 43 appearances in all competitions this season, has already expressed a desire to join a “top club.”

Manchester United had attempted to sign Timber last summer, but he turned down the move to Old Trafford, instead opting to stay at the Johan Cruyff Arena. However, according to Sky Germany, Ajax is now said to have set a price tag of £44 million for Timber, and the club believes that he is likely to leave in the summer.

United manager Erik ten Hag, who previously worked with Timber during his tenure at Ajax, is reportedly keen on bringing the young defender to Manchester. However, Ten Hag was previously left “stunned” by Timber’s decision to reject United’s advances last year. At the time, the defender had been warned by Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal that only players featuring regularly for their clubs would be selected for the national team.

Manchester United could approach Jurrien Timber

Despite no concrete offers having been made for Timber, his departure from Ajax appears to be imminent. The defender himself has confirmed that a transfer is “getting closer and closer,” adding that he has already made agreements with the Dutch club. He also expressed his desire to take the next step in his career and play abroad.

"“A transfer is getting closer and closer, so to speak. There is a lot of concrete interest and I have made agreements with Ajax. Last year Ajax asked me to stay for at least one more season and to extend my contract,” Timber said.“As a club boy, I did that with love and after the season we will review the situation. At the Dutch national team, I often talk to boys who play football abroad. I want to take that step someday.”“But when that is, you will eventually hear and it will happen in consultation with Ajax. I’m still here anyway and I’m in no hurry. The focus is now on the cup final and the remainder of the competition.”Source De Telegraaf"

Meanwhile, Manchester United is looking to reinforce its defence, with Harry Maguire having had a difficult season. Timber’s versatility and youthfulness would make him a valuable addition to the team. The Red Devils have reportedly been scouting potential signings in the centre-back position, and Timber’s availability could make him a prime target.
