Manchester United eye Southampton star as Casemiro successor
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly considering Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia as a potential successor to Brazilian star Casemiro, who is 31 years old and not a long-term option for the Dutch coach. While Casemiro has made an immediate impact and won critical acclaim, the Red Devils are on the lookout for younger talent.
According to The Independent, Ten Hag is keeping an eye on Lavia’s progress and is impressed with the 19-year-old’s potential. Lavia has been dubbed a ‘destroyer’ at Southampton and has become a regular fixture in the squad this season, despite his young age.
Although Ten Hag has not yet determined his budget for the summer, he has reportedly made a few priorities clear, including a No. 9 striker, a ball-playing goalkeeper, and a centre-back. The striker position is seen as the most critical need for the team. United have reportedly targeted Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as well as other potential candidates, including Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.
Manchester United looking to bolster squad with youngsters
Ten Hag is well-known for nurturing young talent during his time at Ajax and has a reputation for developing world-class players who often move on to bigger clubs. Lavia could be an excellent addition to the Dutchman’s squad, where he could develop his skills and reach his full potential.
Manchester United have a strong track record of success in both domestic and European competitions, and Ten Hag will undoubtedly be looking to strengthen his squad with top-quality players ahead of next season’s Champions League football. Lavia’s potential signing could be a significant acquisition for the team, but it remains to be seen if Southampton will let him go and if the Manchester side can secure the services of the 19-year-old.
