Manchester United ready to sell four defenders to sign Jeremie Frimpong
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Dutch defender, Jeremie Frimpong. The 20-year-old right-back only moved to the German outfit in January but has already attracted the attention of the Red Devils, who are in the market for a new right-back.
According to sources, United boss Erik ten Hag has been impressed by Frimpong’s performances in the Bundesliga and is keen on signing him in the summer transfer window. The young defender has featured regularly for Leverkusen since his arrival from Scottish giants Celtic in 2021, making 88 appearances across all competitions. This season has been particularly impressive as the 22-year-old has scored 9 goals and provided 10 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga side.
Frimpong started his career in the Manchester City academy before moving to Celtic in 2019. He quickly established himself as a first-team regular at the Glasgow-based club and made 51 appearances in total. Frimpong is known for his speed, technical ability, and attacking prowess, which could make him a good fit for Ten Hag’s style of play.
However, United could face competition from other European clubs for Frimpong’s signature, with French giants Paris Saint-Germain and Italian side AC Milan also monitoring the player. Leverkusen, meanwhile, are keen to hold on to their young talent, but they could be tempted by a substantial offer from United or other interested clubs.
Manchester United keen on signing Jeremie Frimpong
If United are able to secure the services of Frimpong, it could solve their longstanding right-back issue. The Red Devils have struggled in that position since the departure of club legend Gary Neville and have been rotating between Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot in recent seasons. However, with the former struggling for consistency and the latter with injuries, Frimpong could be the long-term solution to United’s right-back problem.
According to the report, the Red Devils are ready to sell Harry Maguire, Brandon Williams, Alex Telles, and Eric Bailly in order to add to their transfer budget to secure their targets for the summer.
