Moussa Dembele

This one is a throw of the dice. Barring any huge financial constraints, United would probably look for better options. After a breakout season last year, which brought 21 goals in 30 league appearances, Dembele’s form has fallen off a cliff this season.

Just three goals in 22 appearances speak of a player who is, in business terms, a “distressed asset”. If United fail in their pursuit for the more illustrious names, like Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, Dembele might be a worthwhile gamble on the cheap.

His 2021/22 season showed that there is clearly a great player there. Interested teams would bank on the fact that contractual security, along with a change in surroundings can revive his fortunes.

If Dembele manages to recapture even half of that form, he would be a worthwhile signing on a free transfer. “Buy low, sell high” is something that smart teams like Benfica and Brighton and have mastered. Moussa Dembele would fit that category perfectly. Only for Manchester United, he fills a position of need too.
