Manchester United are keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window as Erik ten Hag recognises the importance of having an additional goalscorer in his squad, especially with Champions League football next season.

The long-term injury to Anthony Martial forced the Dutch boss into bringing Wout Weghorst on a loan deal during the winter transfer window. Not only this, winger Marcus Rashford had to switch roles to a more centre-forward position and while the 25-year-old has been on tremendous form this season, scoring 27 goals and providing 9 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions, the heavy reliance on him could prove to be problematic.

In order to resolve this issue, Ten Hag has shortlisted four strikers that are perfect for him with Tottenham Hotspur‘s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen named the two favourites. Spurs are reportedly unwilling to sell their skipper despite his contract expiring in 2024, and the added risk of losing him for free if no transfer is agreed upon this summer, and have demanded £100 million for the 29-year-old.

Meanwhile, Osimhen’s future remains uncertain as while the Nigerian international revealed his desire to play in the Premier League, his focus remains on winning both Serie A and the Champions League with Napoli.

Manchester United told to pay €150 million for key target

According to FootMercato, Napoli have placed a €150 million asking price on Osimhen and will not listen to any offers below that price. With a contract with the Serie A giants until 2025, United might need to spend big in order to secure the striker or risk losing him to other European giants with both Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly keen on signing the 24-year-old this summer.
