Manchester United are in desperate need of an additional goalscorer as the heavy reliance on Marcus Rashford this season could prove to be fatal for the upcoming season, especially with Champions League football.

The long-term injury to Anthony Martial forced the Red Devils into bringing 30-year-old Wout Weghorst on a loan deal during the winter transfer window. On top of that, Rashford had to switch roles from being a traditional winger to a centre-forward.

Though the England international has been on tremendous form this season, scoring 27 goals and providing 9 assists in 44 appearances for United, manager Erik ten Hag knows the importance of adding a prolific striker to his squad.

This resulted in the Dutch boss shortlisting four candidates with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Tottenham Hotspur‘s Harry Kane leading the race. While the former-mentioned Nigerian striker remains the favourite, Kane is being strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Harry Kane to cost Manchester United £100 million

According to The Times, Spurs are demanding £100 million for their skipper, and while United are keen on securing the 29-year-old, such a hefty price tag could be enough to push them away.

Tottenham are reluctant about letting their prolific striker leave, especially in his current form scoring 23 goals and providing 4 assists in 39 appearances this season. Having said that, with a contract expiring in June 2024, Spurs might risk losing him for free if his sale isn’t finalized this summer.

United continues to explore the market for all potential alternatives and are said to be interested in opening a conversation for Kane despite the demanded transfer fee. It remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites consider reducing their asking price considering the striker’s contract situation.
