Manchester United firmly considering Osimhen transfer option
Premier League giants Manchester United are now reportedly considering a potential high-profile transfer of striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
According to a report from Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United alongside the likes of rivals Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG have emerged as the front-runners in the race to sign the goalscoring machine at the start of the next season.
The Nigerian forward is enjoying the best season of his career in the Serie A this season as he is steering his team, Napoli to an emphatic Scudetto win. With 19 goals and 4 assists in 23 league matches, Osimhen is in exquisite form and is expected to add to that tally further in the remaining part of the season.
Manchester United already have a striker problem this season and after the departure of Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, the issue surfaced with a bit more difficulty. The performances of homegrown talent Marcus Rashford is currently overshadowing the prospect of any complication in the goalscoring department but manager Erik Ten Hag who has led The Reds to a rejuvenation this season is aware of his deficiency in his team.
The stop-gap signing of striker Wout Weghorst can be seen as a temporary option and as Rashford cannot be expected to continue his red-hot form into the next season, United will search and sign a proven striker who will displace the Dutchman as the first-choice one.
Victor Osimhen has been crucial to Napoli’s endeavours this season. The Partenopei are in firm contention to win the title and are doing well in UEFA Champions League. The Nigerian could cost any interested club up to 100 million euros in a total transfer package and United will need to sort out their ownership issues soon so as to avoid any kind of obstruction to signing new players next summer.
