The potential arrival of new owners could bring in a lot of transfer funds for Manchester United to spend in the transfer window, but manager Erik ten Hag hasn’t ruled out summer exits to support his rebuilding plans.

One of the positions the Dutch coach is looking to bolster this summer is the centre-back role with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez the two current favourites. While Victor Lindelöf and Phil Jones were always the rotational players, captain Harry Maguire has seen a drastic reduction in his playtime this season.

Despite remaining the most expensive defender since his arrival at Old Trafford in 2019 for a record £80 million transfer fee, the 30-year-old is said to be one of the many to leave the club this summer.

Maguire recently revealed that he is struggling to come to terms with his reduced playtime under Ten Hag and while he wants to work his way back into a regular starter role, his chance at being part of the starting XI may lie elsewhere.

According to 90min, Newcastle United have been named the favorite destination for the out-of-favour defender with other English giants like West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers monitoring the situation.

The report suggests that the Red Devils are open to giving Maguire the opportunity to fight for a spot at Old Trafford but with the potential arrival of a new centre-back, he may well find himself lower on the squad list in the near future.

The Premier League giants have kept the signing of a new central midfielder and centre forward as the two priorities for the transfer window, but are willing to reinforce their defence if the opportunity arises.
