Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is keen on signing new midfielders in the summer transfer window as the current injury crisis at Old Trafford is making it very difficult for the Dutch coach to rotate his players. Both Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek have been unavailable this season due to injuries, which forced the club into signing Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich in the winter transfer window.

While Ten Hag has made it evident that the Brazilian pairing of Fred and former Real Madrid star Casemiro is his preferred setup, the lack of options in the middle of the park could prove to be a major problem, especially with Champions League football next season.

Barcelona‘s Frenkie de Jong and Borussia Dortmund‘s Jude Bellingham have been named the two top targets for the summer transfer window but the Red Devils are now evaluating a deal for a 2022 World Cup-winning midfielder.

Manchester United hold internal talks on signing a World Cup winner

According to reliable journalist Ben Jacobs, the Manchester giants have held discussions internally to evaluate the possibility of signing Brighton playmaker Alexis Mac Allister. The 24-year-old has been in impressive form in the Premier League this season and his performance for Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar has attracted many European giants.

Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea are all said to be keeping a close eye on the midfielder but with a contract until 2025, Brighton won’t sell him for cheap.  After winning the World Cup, the midfielder’s price tag went from £27-35m to well above £60 million. While United are keen on De Jong and Bellingham, Ten Hag must quickly finalize the decision regarding Mac Allister or risk losing him to other Premier League giants.
